I don’t really hate superfoods. I hate the idea of superfoods. The whole concept of superfoods flies in the face of a fundamental tenet of healthy eating: variety. The truth is that health comes from a varied diet, not from any individual food.
A recently published consumer study revealed that few people regularly count calories.* The article goes on to say that “keeping track [of calories] is the crux of controlling your weight,” and that “research shows that people who keep track of calories lose twice as much weight as those who don’t.” Puleeze!
A lot is made these days of eating whole foods. But does it really matter? You bet it does. 
As a nutritionist, I often hear people – especially overweight people – make an unsolicited confession. “I’m so bad,” they say. What they mean is, “I make unhealthy choices and I know it, but I still do it.”
